MAXIS GBN

Interesting sessions and discussions with our industry peers in Luxembourg

Captive owners and insurance experts arrived en masse in Luxembourg a couple of weeks ago, as the 2018  European Captive Forum (ECF) took place at the European Convention Centre on 14-15 November. More than 600 delegates from 170 organisations and 25 countries made their way to the conference to meet with experts and hear the latest emerging trends from thought leaders across the captive industry.

And at MAXIS, we were no different.  Our team were there in force and over the course of the two days, networked with industry peers, clients and brokers among others.

We also had the opportunity to share our own insights, taking part in three exciting sessions over the course of the Forum, discussing the topics of captives for employee benefits (EB), innovation in the EB sector and the impact data can have to drive health and wellness programmes.

 Sharing our insights

The opportunity to take part in a variety of lively panel sessions at ECF was not to be missed. Our first session was a ‘first’ for ECF, a look at digital innovation in employee benefits.

Helga Viegas, our Director of Digital Marketing & Innovation, and Matthias Helmbold, Head of Technical & Services, hosted the session called “Innovation in Employee Benefits in the Digital Era”. They were joined by Angela Benedetti from Syngenta and Miguel Oliveira Miranda from Zurich to discuss how data and digital innovation are impacting the EB sector and to look at the opportunities new technologies and data analytics can offer global benefits professionals. They shared their experiences on how best to tackle the many challenges of the EB world today and discussed what the future of the industry might look like.

Data remained a hot topic on day two, as Dr Leena Johns, Director of Health & Wellness, MAXIS, took part in a panel discussion on “Healthcare & Wellness – Data Collection and Analytics.”

In a fantastic room that looked more like the United Nations than a captive forum, Dr Leena was joined by moderator Brian Quinn, Managing Director at Granite Management, , Bill Fitzpatrick,  Vice President Corporate Benefits at DHL,  and Dr Eric Butler, Director Health & Wellness at Generali. The group shared their vision as to how the next generation healthcare reports can display data that helps companies deliver strategic wellness programmes around the globe.

Following this useful discussion on data and wellness, Matthias Helmbold continued the conversation, participating in the panel on “Utilising the Captive to Fund Wellness and Enhance Benefits”.

Matthias and his fellow panellists Reto Heini, Senior Corporate Relationship Manager at Zurich, Anne-Marie Towle, EVP Captive Consulting Practice Leader at JLT and Carl Redondo, Global Benefit Leader from Aon, discussed how to use a captive to enhance employee benefits and how a captive can support wellness strategies.

Thanks to all the attendees and speakers who helped to make this year’s ECF an exciting and interesting event.
